Personal spending habits:
I guess that the main factor that made me spend more than in my host country was the exchange rate between my currency and the $, otherwise the prices would have been similar.
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
So as to help with my expenses there, I looked for a job on campus, wich was what my visa permitted me. I got a Job in the academic support facilities of the university, called Students Office Loan Account. The students working there had administrative responsabilities, but, at least, I was able to see how they worked there; how the american students support themselves while studying, a big difference from how it is in my country.

A word of notice: at that time was the US currency extremely high, so these figures are certainly distorted!
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Let the host university arrange for medical insurance. And pls pls do not pay yourself for the college money. It is insanely high. 20.000 dollars is not the exception, but the rule!
