Get an around-the-world ticket if you can... it not that much more than a rt to Perth costs- and you can visit awesome places... I went to England, France, New Zealand, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Hawaii- and it didn't really cost that much more than just going to Perth would have. Read Review

HOUSING
by Josephine, Vesalius College, Brussels, Belgium

Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? Due to an econmic boom, life in Western Australia has become extremely expensive and this is the most cost-worthy way of living in Perth. Furthermore, there are practically no apartments to rent anymore and the ones that are available are very expensive. Student housing at Murdoch was haphazard and badly organized.
Personal comments:
I applied for help in finding housing upon my arrival in Perth and didn't hear from the University at all regarding that. Also, student housing was full and students had to pay the entire sum of their stay up front. i.e. you stay § months, you pay § months rent in one go.

So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
You can't miss Northbridge in Perth City. Fremantle is also a great spot to hit. Tuesday nights at Rosies are packed with Murdoch kids. And you can't leave without trying out Little Creatures in Freo.

Yes! I'd love to have more lectures! The seminar setting was great, but I feel like there was so much more the professors could have taught us.

Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.

No problem understanding the Australians' accent. Good service and mannerism in host country, little bad experience of racism. Homely and relaxed feeling. A good place for self and moderate paced development.

Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.

Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
Family
Personal savings
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
Due to currency rates, expenses tend to be more or less at times. As there is freedom to be independent, more money was spent on food and entertainment, like renting videos, outdoor sports home country could not provide otherwise.
Food, Overall, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Travel, Nightlife, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Buy brand new neccessities only when you know you are going to be in a country for a long time, like 3 years. To save more, look for furnished places or buy second hand books, furniture.
