Accomodation at the university was more expensive than renting the same type of studio in town but it didn't have as good a location as one would want. The main attraction point of the accomodation on campus was that it was a great way to get to meet new people and integrate more quickly into the college lifestyle.

Bars and clubs in Reims were pretty quiet. Personally I think this is because the town is very close to Paris. At the weekend most of the french people would go home so basically all the foreigners were left in Reims for the weekend. Most of the best parties were organised by the students themselve ie house parties, or the students union in college. Bars and clubs in reims are very quiet although the best club would be the Aquarium and the best bar would be the L'Apostrophe.

Academic
Course recommendations
Courses and times were designed to suit the lecturers more and not the students. Course content was good and most of the courses were very interesting. Particularly in 4th year.

Exams followed immediately after lectures and projects so there was no time at all to study. Surely something could be done to improve this system. A little more consideration with regards students life outside college particularly when nearly all the students are living away from home!

Very difficult at first but learned to cope very well, particularly after the work placement. French slang though is extremely difficult to come to terms with and changes every week nearlys so one needs to meet and speak with the locals in order to stay afloat!

For Irish people would be to travel as much as possible while on the continent because it is probablly the cheapest opportunity to travel you will ever have.

Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:

Personal spending habits
I spent more on accomodation because normally I live at home and pay nothing. On nitelife France can be very expensive to go out in although drink is much cheaper when you buy it in the supermarkets. Travel in France is much better and cheaper than in Ireland. The Carte 12/25 offers great reductions for train travel. Also when travelling abroad from Ireland it is much more expensive because it usually involves getting a plane.

French goverment offer a grant for rent to students. You need to go to the Allocation Familiale to get it. Also you are entitled to a grant if you are doing a work placement abroad. I think it's called a Leonardo grant which is well worth looking into.
