HOUSING
by AUBRY, ESC Saint-Etienne, Saint-Etienne, France
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? 1-Because you know different people than at the University.
2-At the Napier University, there is a lot of foreign students, so it's better to know the local people if we want to know the town and the country too.
3-Because the price of the room is cheaper than the other solutions.
4-Because I have to manage myself to find a flat.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
At the begining, I had some difficults to understand the language due to different accents. Few weeks after my arrival, I understood better people and as well at School (except sometimes due to specific terms). The teachers are very close to their students and if there is a problem you can ask them... A very good experience and I advice this to other people (particularly to French people!!) The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Life in Scotland (and the UK in general) is at a higher ground than in Portugal, and lifestyle is more expensive than I expected. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Cost saving tip will be to spend the first days eating sandwitches and checking out your surroundings. Some supermarkets have cheaper items than others, and if you don't look after you finances, you might find yourself in trouble pretty soon. Make a list of cheap places to buy some food items, and housing items. Lidl, Pound stretcher and Farmfoods are the best around here. Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
my flat was really badly insulated, i wish i could have known it befor signing the lease In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
do not hesitate to talk to people of the administration when you have a request, they are really friendly and helpful in any case. take advantage of the computer room open 24/7 to do ur essays and reports FINAL COMMENTS
Use Ryanair if you can to travel there. Tollcross, Fountainpark and West End are really cool areas to live around. Do chose your flat really carefully and try to find a short term lease contract (3 months). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
