I wish I had known...
I had the impression before going that locals are closed off to internationals and that most of your friends are going to be international but this certainly does not have to be the case. It's not that the locals are closed off- it has more to do with the cultural differences that cause the self-segregation.

If you're someone who doesn't like to go out all the time and would be interested in interacting with the local community, I def. recommend the residential college. It is like a U.S. dorm building but with it's own clubs (sports, music, art, dance, writing, etc.) They also divide every few floors into a 'House' which holds its own events and helps with integrating into the local community.

I think this program adapts to all kinds of students and it's certainly a top-notch option for those looking to study abroad (especially for native English-speakers who don't want to learn a new language). Good weather, food, well-developed, easy to travel around, good school, etc.

That there are no moskitos in Singapore, that the water is clean to drink. Before going, a doctor recommended me to take a moskitos nest and some medicine to drink the water. No use! Singapore is so clean!!!

Try to mix with local students, that means do not always stay with your international friends. The local you get to know will bring you many interesting things (culture, good advice, good spots...)

Singapore is not really worth visiting in itself; but it is a good place to travel from: First tip, cambodia and the temples in Angkor, second tip, Koh Tarutao, a Thai island.

As soon as you arrive you should structure your time in order to maximise it. So find out what is wanted from your courses and when you are free. Then search online for good travel deals and go everywhere in the Asia-Pacific region that you have time to go to.

I had not enough information from my home university, and had to contact directly the host university to get things done before coming (inscription, housing, etc.).

If I wanted to give advice to futur exchange students at the NUS, that would be: "Really enjoy life over there. Travelling to Malaysia or Indonesia is very easy and not expensive at all. You can easily meet many NUS students and keep a lot of contacts.
