HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Rentinga an appartment gives more freedom compared to on campus facilities.
Personal comments:
This university has several opptions when it comes to off-campus housing and and most of them are in immediate distance to campus. I choosed to live with friends in an appartment complex that was very social. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Used to live close to the main street and thus went out several times a week. On your average day the best bar would be Molly's (typical american college sports bar)with nice atmosphere and packed with people mainly college kids. Amnesia Nightclub would be your after-hours place in the weekends with high energy and pulsing vibes. On thuesday's Starbusters and other greekroad frat' bars is a good alternative. NIU is what I consider a commuting college and a lot of kids leave DeKalb for the weekends. Therefor, travel as much as you can in the weekends, Chicago is only 45min away, but besides from having a car the only means of transportation from Dekalb to Chicago is the Greyhound bus. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Personal comments:
It was brilliant, and it realy took my english to another level. Having to speek on a daily basis increased my vocabulary and perfectioned my oral and written skills. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
The food is a LOT cheaper, but then again you eat out several times a day. When it comes to phone bills, you call overseas once in a while but it does not eat up your expense account (check out with different companies on overseas deals!). Rnet a room in an appartment it is almost the same price as on-campus accommodations. The nightlife in DeKalb is extremly cheap even for US standards, $1.5 - $3 drinks especially at Molly's. Traveling is expensive where ever you go, especially in the US! Travel: was more expensive than at home. Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food, Nightlife, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Don't screw with the banks or they will charge you with sky high fees. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
