Northwestern is very generous with grants and arranging financing for students. The administration is very easy to deal with. Registering for courses is a breeze. Chicago has a lot to offer, so try not to get too distracted by the local attractions. Read Review

STUDENT LIFE
by Khloe, Northwestern University, Chicago, United States
Management Science, Continuing Studies
Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Wicker Park is the neighborhood with the highest concentration of young people and interesting bars. I am not into sports, so I avoid bars with televisions or fanatical sport clientele. Rainbo on Damen and Division streets is my usual hangout. Earwax on Milwaukee Avenue has progressive crowd. Myopic books two blocks south of Earwax has a great selection of used books and they allow smoking in the store. For an unpretentious night on the town, I would go to Irazu, a Costa Rican restaurant on Milwaukee south of Western Avenue, for a vegetarian burrito; see a show at Big Horse or Empty Bottle. For foreign films, the best places to go are Landmark Century Theatres on Clark Street in Lincoln Park and the Gene Siskel Film Center located downtown on State Street.

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
This review concerns only Northwestern's School of Continuing Studies, which is their evening program for professionals. The quality of instruction is the same as the day school, but the course offerings are slimmer. This is a great program for folks who work full-time, but want to complete their undergraduate degree or continue their education.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
Buy your textbooks from barnesandnoble.com or amazon.com - the prices are always cheaper. I usually spend $100 to $150 per class on textbooks.

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
Chicago is extremely cold in the winter!
In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
The day school (Evanston campus) has a very competitive and snobby atmosphere. Evanstion students are not as social as the evening school students who are generally older and have more life experience. Getting into the evening program is much easier than getting into the day program.
