The experience is well worthy. Get rid of stereotypes and try to get to know people. Do not think that your way of having fun is the best, and the only one. Be open-minded, and take part in every activity and meeting that you can. Then, enjoy the best year of your life. And suddenly you will realise that you have changed. Read Review

KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.

Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because you have more space, more intimacy, more quietness and usually it is cheaper if you share the apartment (you can even get some aid from the governtment). The room in the residence was not bad at all. The problem is that it is good mainly for party-time. There is too much noise (noisy neighbours)and some of your mates, do not worry too much about cleaning in the shared areas (kitchen, toilettes...). Also influenced my decision the fact that I had the chance to live with someone who I knew before. What I mean is that a room on a campus is the best way to meet people for a foreign student (and that is what you need when you have just arrived) and that maybe if I would not had the chance to share the apartment with an acquaintance of mine, I would have stayed there. There is more companionship, and atmosphere is great.
Personal comments:
I was in Teknisk Kollegium till December, then I moved to Carl Nielsen Kollegiet, where I have had a delightful time. Rooms and apartments supplied by university are on the average really good. You have plenty of facilities, and buildings are in good condition. The only fault could be that they are a little bit expensive, although here in Denmark, everything is expensive. But for example, rules like having to warn that you are leaving 6 weeks before the date and the rule of having to pay 2 additional weeks when leaving, have as a result that when you are moving, you usually have to add a big expense to the yet expensive rent. 'H.C.Ø'. and 'Teknisk' are good. Good location, lots of people, good times and parties... 'Carl Nielsen Kollegiet' is different. More quiet and more study atmosphere. 'Rasmus Rask' is far from anywhere. It depends on what you are searching for and on your quietness standards and life style.

Personal social experience

KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Boogies is perfect for dancing. Cockoo's nest is the best choice for having a coffe or chocolate while talking: sometimes with live music. Cheapest prices are found in the hall of residences' pubs (don't miss the 'Larmer' on Friday in Teknisk. The 'Christmas beer's day' is unbelievable: free beer all around the town! Do not miss some big party in the university corridors (dress smart if you intend to pull). Take advantage of the International day of Museums to see most of them (mainly Den Fynske Landsby, Bymuseet and Carl Nielsen Museet). And take part in some event arranged by 'Casa Cultural'(mainly formed by people interested in Spanish and Latin American culture);they make great parties and are very open-minded.

My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
There are two weeks at the beginning of the semester during which it is possible to go to every courses in order to choose the ones we will follow after. It is really important to go to EVERY courses during those weeks to make one own opinion about the class. Indeed subjects can appear interesting but they are not really in reality and vice versa.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.

Personal comments:
It would be maybe a good idea to umplicate more the students thanks to projects throughout the course.

How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it
My level after: Basic phrases
Personal comments:
For every exchange students in Denmark it's not so important to learn danish, one can communicate with everybody there in english since all the danes speak perfect english. For me it has been a very good opportunity to improve my english; among the exchange students there were a lot of native speakers too.

It was very difficult getting a job because I did not speak the local language. It was very surprising that even for cleaning jobs I was told wherever i went that I needed to speak danish to be able to get a job.I only had to learn not to spend beyond my means. Shop fron Aldi amd Netto who things are much cheaper.

FINAL COMMENTS

Travel by train is very expensive, but if you are under 26 it's possible to get a discount (WildCard 50,25%). Nightlife is also expensive, it's good to visit placed before 11 pm, usually before this time the entrance is free. The most important thing is to have a BIKE! Public transport and taxi as you expect is also very expensive. With the bike there is also more fun, and it's healthy :) x
