EQUIS Reims Management School
ESC Reims, 59 rue Pierre Taittinger, 51061 Reims, France
A word from the school:
Sup de Co Reims has begun a process of academic renovation. To make its diplomas more easily understood in the international labour market, Sup de Co Reims has added some new diplomas to its course. After two years, students will be awarded a 'Bachelor in Management'. Students can then choose between the following : studying the normal third year leading to a 'Masters in Management'; and starting work in a company where they spend three years while at the same following a complementary distance learning programme. On completion of this programme, students gain direct access to the School's MBA by studying either one year full time or eighteen months part time.

HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It gives that bit more independance than being on campus or with a family, and also allows you to be in town (the campus is just outside of the centre). It also means that you don't spend your whole life on campus.
Personal comments:
I spent my first year in a studio in a residence which i'd arranged before coming over here. It was a little more expensive than a normal studio or sharing an apartment with friends (like i have done this year), but was worthwhile for the peace of mind. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Bars and clubs in Reims were pretty quiet. Personally I think this is because the town is very close to Paris. At the weekend most of the french people would go home so basically all the foreigners were left in Reims for the weekend. Most of the best parties were organised by the students themselve ie house parties, or the students union in college. Bars and clubs in reims are very quiet although the best club would be the Aquarium and the best bar would be the L'Apostrophe. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Courses and times were designed to suit the lecturers more and not the students. Course content was good and most of the courses were very interesting. Particularly in 4th year.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Exams followed immediately after lectures and projects so there was no time at all to study. Surely something could be done to improve this system. A little more consideration with regards students life outside college particularly when nearly all the students are living away from home! Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
Very difficult at first but learned to cope very well, particularly after the work placement. French slang though is extremely difficult to come to terms with and changes every week nearlys so one needs to meet and speak with the locals in order to stay afloat! I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Food and drink, when bought from a supermarket are fairly cheap in France, thus bringing the costs down. Travelling expenses accounted to more than at home, as being in central Europe distances to other European countries are so "short" and travelling easy, and during the year I visited Amsterdam, Paris, Biarritz, French Alps... Travel: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Food, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Opening a bank account in France is often compicated, bring all official forms you have with you just in case!! Also keep in mind when using "carte bleu", the local bank card, that you might go on debit, although the bank doesn't tell you this when you get the card. And interest rate is high, sure enough... More real-life info on the school and about Reims. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Professionalisation. Increase quality of some courses and of easy exams. Let students study themselve instead of presenting everything in class. FINAL COMMENTS
The ESC Reims is not a bad school and a lot of effort is made to offer quality courses. Nevertheless, there is no study mentality present at all. Students arrive late (typically French) and prefer to do as less as possible. This is fed by the French system of sitting down, taking notes and reproducing at the exam. Although this can be quite handy or easy for a foreign student, it gets boring now and then. Reims is a nice city, only when you make it nice. That means undertaking things and making tours in its surroundings. Don't expect to much of the nightlife: prices are high and pubs close early, while the French do not really have the 'going out' mentality. They prefer to give small parties at home, or go to parties arranged by school. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
