HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Personal comments:
Housing was arranged wery smoothly. No problems at all. Of course quality of the accomodation could have been better beacause I wasn't really living in a real house. "Containers", as we called them. But people and atmosphere were great! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Groningen is truly a university town. A lot of possibilities to spend your time. Irish pub, Sally O'Brien's is the starting place for international students on Mondays. It seems to be that bars don't have closing time... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Everyone speaks English in the Netherlands so there's no problem. If you know English and German you can understand some Dutch (written), at least the context. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Student loan Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Housing isn't inexpensive in Groningen. There's a chronic lack of accomodation for students and it seems to get worse year by year. So take the first that is offered to you. Afterwards you can try to find (better/cheaper?) something else. Nightlife is really cheap and you can get yourself wasted with low budget ;) Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
It's quite easy to travel in the Netherlands because of short distances. Get The Off-peak Discount Pass to trains. You'll get a 40% discount from off-peak (weekdays after 9 am) trips and pays itself back quicly. Also bike is mandatory if you want to move. Don't buy the first second-hand bike that you'll see, make some comparison... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I got a comprehensive information package from the host university well in time, so I think I had all the necessary information beforehand. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I was studying in the faculty of economics and all things went well. Although it seems that there are significant differences between faculties and if you are Erasmus-student etc. Some students from different faculties didn't receive any information beforehand... FINAL COMMENTS
The Netherlands is an optimal place to travel anywhere, so remember to travel! My personal experience from local people wasn't so nice. Sometimes they can be quite rude and arrogant. Urban legend tells that Groningers are different from rest of the country. But of course you'll find nice people too. Don't take stress and enjoy your time!
