HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: studenthouse
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: the same as I did
Why? I would choose again a studenthouse, because this is the best way to socialise and mix with other students, while one can also isolate in his/her room when he/she needs to.
Personal comments:
Housing was excellent, organised by a special housing organisation cooperating with the Univ. but acting independently. The housing assistance offered was excellent, since every effort had been done in order to meet one's specific needs&wishes concerning accomodation-and most times these wishes had been met. STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Night spots: "Molly Malone's", "The Palace" etc. Don't miss the open air market taking place at the Martini square. Do visit the many interesting museums of this small town, and of course climb to the top of the dominating Martini tower in the centre of the town, which was destroyed during the 2nd World war and totally rebuilt afterwards. The panoramic city view will reward you indeed! Give yourself a bike ride to the splendid countryside lying outside Groningen and discover the great landscape. Do visit the Royal Botanical Garden, just a few km outside the town. And if all this sounds too quiet or boring, trust me, the town's nightlife, sport activities and overall entertainment options will convince you it is not so. Be sure that all professors will do their best to make you feel right about choosing Groningen for your studies: perfectly well organised, innovative teaching methods, capacities in interacting with foreign students, fluent english. Personal reccomendation: International law, African law(!), Sociology of Law.- Do take the best advantage of the Univ. library just opposite the University, where a wide range of sources of knowledge, from books to multimedia, will assist you in gaining he information you need.

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Personal comments:
Netherlanders have an excellent command of english, which is a guarantee that you will face no problems at all. As for dutch, I did not have enought time there to learn it except for a few basic phrases. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Because, from my experience at least, the above mentioned categories are more highly priced in my country than at Groningen. Food, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
No significant financial surprises. Cost saving-tips concerning food: do eat at the University self-service restaurant, good food, good prices, nice atmoshpere in a new, modern building, made of glass. As for travelling, if you do plan to travel a lot, which I highly reccomend, take advantage of the monthly railway tickets. This should save you a respectable amount of money. OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Only perhaps dutch, in order to be able to get even more into the local culture, although, as I mentioned before, the local's command of english was high indeed. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Perfectly organised, verey friendly and helpful secretariat (thank you Mrs. Van Aastrid!, good and helpful professors. I even consider it for further studies. FINAL COMMENTS
An overall splendid, unforgettable experience, that became even more bautiful thanks to the kind local people. You will reach Groningen by train from Amsterdam, trip lasting around 3 hours. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
