HOUSING
by Lukasz, Europa-Universität Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder), Frankfurt am Main, Germany
Business Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: A room exchange
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Becauase I could spend time after classes with other students and enjoy my student life.
Personal comments:
I was pleased to live where I lived, although there were some inconveniences involved, as the student house facilities were quite old and blackouts or problems with pipes were not seldom. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Check out the European Law and International Law courses at the faculty of Law!!! You can attend them, even if you aren't a law student; just contact the exchange student coordinator for more information. Notice, though, that most of the courses in English at the Faculty of Law are LL.M. courses, so they are quite demanding and require a lot of studying. At the Faculty of Humanities there aren't many courses given in English, except for the Ducth Studies programme, the courses of which are interesting but not very challenging, since the academic backround of the students attending them varies a lot. The Dutch language courses are really useful, though!

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
I had planned to study Dutch language courses but in the end I didn't. I just studided the language by myself from a book. People speak English well enough in the Netherlands. The English language skills of the professors were sometimes good and sometimes a bit poor. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Family Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I spent more in food telephone and housing because I live with my family n Tarragona. In nightlife, because I went out there almost every day and in travelling because I went to visit all the Netherlands Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Go to Manamini, you will find very cheap second-hand furniture. Abn-Amro is the best bank for students, you can have a coffe while you are waiting... The public phones work with cards (you can find them in the super-markets: Albert Heijn, Super de Boer...), you can also get a strippencaard for the bus with ten trams This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I was pretty much prepared and had no surprises after I arrived. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Probably more frequent tutorials would be helpful. The university has very high-level academic approach which is based on individual work. However, more discussions and team work during classes would be interesting and helpful for students. FINAL COMMENTS
I recommend studying at the University of Groningen to all students who aim at high-quality academic experience. The city is also very lively and vibrant. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
