HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Because leaving in an hous makes more independant
Personal comments:
Housing at this University was great because we were in big houses with a lot of international students. It made us possible to be in contact with a lot of people from very different cultures. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Groningen is truly a university town. A lot of possibilities to spend your time. Irish pub, Sally O'Brien's is the starting place for international students on Mondays. It seems to be that bars don't have closing time... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
In the Netherlands it's crucial to attend the first class of the course. In that moment groups of students (that will work together for the whole course) are made and if you are missing, you'll not have a group and you cannot make your exam
My opinion of the university assessment

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. Personal comments:
The Netherlanders speak english really well. It was therefore not a problem at all to communicate with these polite and helping people. As for dutch, I managed to learn basic phrases for my daily life during my short stay therein. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Certain things in Holland such as rent and some foods are cheaper than in the UK. Also, bills were included in the rent which made a big difference. Travel, Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Shop around for cheap phonecards to call home, and check out the local market for food. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
