No, my University provided lots of information and I was able to meet with students who had lived in Groningen the year before. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Groningen is an excellent choice for your ERASMUS year. It is a beautiful city that is small enough to get to know it really well but large enough to have plently of life and culture. The university itself has a good reputation and courses and wide ranging and enjoyable. One thing I would strongly advise is to seek accomadation in a student house rather than a private flat, as this was probably the best part of my year away and makes meeting people very easy and non-stressful. FINAL COMMENTS
Be careful not to get ripped off by local bike shops who make a killing out of exploiting foreign students. A second hand bike should cost no more than 50 euros. Student rail cards can be bought at the station if you take your student card and a photo, which gets you a big discount if you want to go to Amsterdam, The Hague or wherever takes your fancy for the weekend. It would have been useful to know already in advance that I am allowed to take courses also from the other faculties. I knew hardly anything of the country before I left, but I liked it that way: it was an adventure and I enjoyed every moment!!! In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The department of European Law is really good!! FINAL COMMENTS
If you're planing to travel a lot, it's worth while to buy a special discount card for the railways. It costs about 100 fl, but you get a 40% discount of the ticket prises with it, so it pays off quickly. Check out the extremely cheap bus trips to, for example, London and Spain!!! And don't mind the rain - you'll get used to it... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Groningen is a fantastic place to study, a real student-town. The university-staff were really helpful and relaxed. FINAL COMMENTS
Don't think twice if you're considering coming here, it really was the best experience I've had. Make sure you secure accommodation before you arrive, be prepared for some initial communication problems (you'll get over these soon enough!) and make the most of your time abroad, it'll be over before you know it. You're going to have an amazing time! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I got a comprehensive information package from the host university well in time, so I think I had all the necessary information beforehand. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

Personal recommendation:
I was studying in the faculty of economics and all things went well. Although it seems that there are significant differences between faculties and if you are Erasmus-student etc. Some students from different faculties didn't receive any information beforehand... FINAL COMMENTS
The Netherlands is an optimal place to travel anywhere, so remember to travel! My personal experience from local people wasn't so nice. Sometimes they can be quite rude and arrogant. Urban legend tells that Groningers are different from rest of the country. But of course you'll find nice people too. Don't take stress and enjoy your time! Probably more frequent tutorials would be helpful. The university has very high-level academic approach which is based on individual work. However, more discussions and team work during classes would be interesting and helpful for students. FINAL COMMENTS
I recommend studying at the University of Groningen to all students who aim at high-quality academic experience. The city is also very lively and vibrant. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Go and enjoy your stay, it will change your life, and your points of view. You will meet a lot of interesting people and make a lot of good friends FINAL COMMENTS
Disccounting caard to travel by train (you can get it in the station). Buy a Dutch Mobile caard (more useful). Cold very very cold in the winter (gloves, coats, scarfs, hats). Bikes (always second hand not more than 10 euros in the street) and buy a good lock, otherwise they will steal your bike... This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
