Overall

Personal recommendation
Ruhr Uni is a great University, but the social life of the Germans is not like in Italy or in Spain or in England. It´s sometimes really difficult to have a personal direct approach with a German. But, for example, the professor are all really nice and normally they give to you their full disponibility. The facilities here are really good and you don´t have to wait a lot of time for to have all what you may need. Overall, really good.

Mostly great, problems can be avoided by listening to organization talks

Overall
The university is trying to design a study situation, that is mainly foocused on practical courses. While the Bachelor consists of mainly lecturs with some interesting practicals, the Master study mainly consists of practicals to learn new methods. The studies can also be chosen freely, so that every student will have their own and individual study plan.

MA in Development Management
Sarah
Germany, Graduate
, 2020
Overall
I studied MADM (Master of Arts in Development Management). I chose this program because of the wide curriculum that this degree offered. We had a wonderful trip to Berlin, Cape Town, internship, professional seminars during two Summer Schools (in Germany and SA), and several conferences that we could attend. International communication with students and the general diversity of the program was what I liked the most.
However, after graduating, I realized that this program is not typical in Germany. Firstly, all classes lasted a maximum of two weeks. Personally, it was particularly challenging for me, although I was eager to learn and develop myself, I struggled to grasp all the concepts that I wanted, mainly due to a time constraint. After the end of these two weeks exam was usually scheduled in the upcoming week.

Secondly, the level of teaching could have been much higher. Only a few lecturers were truly outstanding, professional, and interesting. Most of the other lecturers lacked knowledge of the subject taught, they often read everything directly from the slides. Based on this, exams could have been more fair, especially grading.

Thirdly, I feel that this program has a rather strong focus on the economy. And no classes on gender, environment, climate change. I find this as a big disadvantage because in the thesis writing process, some mentors are completely unfamiliar with students’ topics.

Please bear in mind that this review is based solely on my personal experience and observations, thus it may be subjective.
