HOUSING
by Josep, Universitat de València, Valencia, Spain
Translation/ Interpretation, University Agreement
Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Americans usually share rooms on campus. Quite uncomfortable: no room to study, no privacy...
Personal comments:
My scholarship included housing, otherwise it's extremely expensive, especially if you come from a public European university.

Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment
Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
didn't really like the bars around. Best choice is found in NYC which is just 45 minutes by train (and there are trains back at night).

Courses are very interesting and the way to teach is different : it is like a discussion.

It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.

I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational

Overall
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
Don't expect to practice with native speakers outside class unless you really get the chance to make American friends over there. Most of my friends were also international students and the city has a huge Spanish-speaking community.

OVERALL
by Josep, Universitat de València, Valencia, Spain
Translation/ Interpretation, University Agreement
Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
I was gonna miss it so much when coming back. 4 months is really a short time.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Try to spend at least 9 months there. Otherwise you won't be able to get involved into the place, the people, the language...Americans are not too open to newcomers, so making REAL good friends takes its time.

FINAL COMMENTS

Flying within America is not too expensive compared to Europe so take advantage of your trip and fly over to California!!Great place!
