Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I stayed not with a family, but with a very well-to-do woman in a palatial apartment in one of the most exclusive areas of Paris. One the one hand, I was exposed to many, many cultural and social experiences that most exchange students never even come close to; on the other hand, I often felt a bit isolated from my fellow students.
Personal comments:
none

Personal comments:
this univerisity is really famous and, in fact, the quality of the class is high and in general the courses are extremely interesting but they should understand that flexibility and an open mind approach is anyway important for an international university

Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French
How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
This is the best way to learn the language. I took 3 years of college level French before I went and found that I really knew nothing. Immersion is the only way to learn a language, even if the first 2 months are extremely difficult. Also, try not to just socialize with international students, speaking french in everyday situations will be the largest factor in improvement.

I wish I had known...
Our home university had advised on everything we really needed to know. After that it was nice discovering things on my own. It is good to know that it is impossible to get taxis on the stree in Paris. You need to get them from specific places.
In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Really challenging and academically satisfying. Nobody who signs up for sciences po should expect an easy year abroad, it is hard and it needs a lot of work especially in my case where the year abroad counted towards my degree.

FINAL COMMENTS

I would advise international students to do the STAGE D'INTERGRATION in September. Even if your French is good it is really important to do it so that you learn your way around university before the classes start.
