HOUSING
by Raffaella, LUISS, Rome, Italy
Political Science, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because Paris is a huge city so living in a campus could facilitate a faster inclusion in the student life of the University
Personal comments:
The University does not offer special services for students but to find a flat is quite easy trough the announcement at the university and in the newspaper This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
Paris: don't miss the bars of Bastille and Menilmontant. A Saint-Germain experience in Chez Georges or le 10 bar (6e arr.) is a must. Much the best when it gets warm is the bords de Seine with your own booze and a few guitars and drums ... For music, le New Morning and la Maison de la Radio are places to look out for. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Unless you are really up-to-speed with your French, it'll be hard to get to know the French students... although I didn't really make as much of an effort as maybe I should have...
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
mmm, nup. The Programme International (the first semester at least) is set at a good pace. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your French?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
My French went from advanced to fluent during the course of my time in Paris. The French university classes I took (one at Sciences Po, the other at Paris VII) were excellent with regard to quality/interesting material. I began thinking in French early on in my stay there. The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
None Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Exchange rate sucks for Americans, but such is life... Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was more expensive than at home. Housing: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Avoid travelers checks. It's easiest to use the ATM with your bank from home and open up a French bank account. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
no, not really In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
IEP Paris is a lot of work. More than one could imagine. At the end of it, for me, it was worth it, and I came to enjoy my stay there. However, the first 5 months of my stay, I hated the place -and so did many others. But if you don't let yourself to be scared by the first impression, it will definitely be a worthwhile experience! FINAL COMMENTS
I enjoyed my year in Paris, but it wasn't the typical party-hard ERASMUS year abroad. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
