ABOUT
The SSIT, Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori, was founded in Milan in 1951. In 1955, it became a foundation and, in 1958, a non-profit institution. The president of the SSIT is Professor Carlo Bo. The Scuola Superiore per Interpreti e Traduttori provides professional training in the field of communication and foreign languages, with specific applications in interpreting and translating. Modern teaching methods ensure a high level of theoretical and scientific preparation. Since it was founded, the SSIT, which has its registered offices in Milan, has also opened schools in Rome, Florence, Bologna, Bari and Genoa. Courses take place at the schools and last two or three years, depending on the student's chosen specialization. Students are required to choose two of the following languages: English, French, German, Spanish and Russian. The teaching staff is made up of university professors, Italian and mother-tongue lecturers, as well as professionals with proven experience in the spheres of interpreting, translating, communication and tourism. The structure of the SSIT three-year diploma course for interpreters and translators corresponds to that of degree courses in foreign languages and literature.
