HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Independence, the conditions in the contract can be negotiated individually, limited number of house mates so you share responsibilities
Personal comments:
The housing at the sheffield hallam university is managed by the accommodation office. For international student there is a chance to apply for a university accomodation prior arrival, but I choose the way of finding a house in the so called 'house hunting week'. Therefor the office offers trips to houses, owned by scrutinised landlords. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Actually I've really enjoyed the parties on campus...every week there are at least one or two parties somewhere...but even the clubs are ok.In sheffield you can choose between the city center and ecclesar road(a road with only pubs and clubs). You really can find whatever you are looking for.As a cafe' in the daytime I've enjoyed the university cafes. The real best way to get several break with several people and find the time to study(sometimes...) Course recommendations:
Do not choose only courses where there are only international students, because in your courses you have the chance to get to know locals...

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English How much did you improve your English?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
The understanding in the lecturs was ok at the beginning and I think I improved every week, same in written assignments. The communication with english students coming from the south was better than with people from the north. After few month I understood as far as possible the Yorkshire accent, but to be honest, I guess I will never know which bargain the cashiers at WHSmith wanted to offer me.
