HOUSING
by Rodney, Suffolk University, Boston, United States
Journalism, Study Abroad
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Dormitory
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Dormitory
Why? I loved the dormitory because I got to live with some pretty good people. I loved that I got my room cleaned once a week and my laundry done. Also, I love the location cause its in the middle of the city where there is a shopping center, cinemas, clubs and bars. What more could you ask for.
Personal comments:
The accomidation was pretty good. The only thing that could change are the ridiculous rules they make you sign before you move into your place. Less rules would lesson the complaints. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Sol has the most areas to go out in but there are so many different places and cultural experiences in this city. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Make sure that you plan you schedule according to how active you plan on being once in Spain i.e. how much you are going to travel and go out. It may sound silly and I was someone who said "I can do it all" but traveling to different coutntries for 3 day weekends and partying into the morning hours in Madrid made things more stressful than necessary. just be realistic, you are not going to be home and there are SO many things to do
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
The attendance policy was really strict and while I was there they would not let you get up to use the restroom if you were in class, not reasonable. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
I only took one semester of Spanish before going to the Madrid campus. The first few weeks were very difficult, but as I got out and about I had no choice but to learn the language. Also as I took classes I became more comfortable and learned a great deal about the language. If I had taken more classes prior to my stay in Madrid, I probably would have excellent reviews about my comminication experience. The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
The clothes are all great, girls, dont buy a wardrobe when you befiore leaving! Bring underwear and bras, clothes in spain are aawesome and cheap! I also decided that I am only going to geet the oppertunities to travel like this once so I better live it up and not miss a thing. SO I am a little more frivilous than in the states. Food, Housing: was the same price as at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Open an account here, bring travelers checks and open n acount. It is the easiest way to deal with money, if you need more just get a wiring number and have someone wire it from home. COst saving tips, dont take money out of your account unless you need it forr something definate, otherwise it gets spaent on dumb stuff. Personal recommendation:
Everone here, students and faculty included, is extremely friendly and helpful. I was extremely nervous about coming here, but my fears were quickly put to rest. FINAL COMMENTS
Study abroad is an experience that I would not trade for anything. If you get the opportunity to do it, then you should. Take advantage of all the opportunities that you have. Travel, experience the night life, and everything else that your host country has to offer. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
