Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration, Helsinki (SHH)

Svenska Handelshögskolan, Helsinki, Arkadiagatan 22 - P.O. Box 479, 00101 Helsinki, Finland
3.85 / 5 based on 138 reviews.
Description:
Swedish is one of the two official languages of Finland since Finland was part of Sweden for more than six centuries until 1809. As early as 1909 the Swedish-speaking business community founded their own college of business. In the 1920's it became an institution of university standing, the present Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration.

The Swedish School of Economics and Business Administration is situated in Helsinki. In order to meet the need for university-level education in Swedish in the fields of economics and business administration in Swedish-speaking Ostrobothnia on the west-coast of Finland, a branch campus was set up in 1980 in the city of Vaasa.

Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It is simply because the Apartment/House is owned and managed by the Centre for International Mobility(CIMO),which is a non- profit organisation. Offers Apartments at relatively cheap rate only to international students. These Apartments are well equiped, that is the sitting rooms, dinning tables, kitchen utensils, and bedrooms are furnished.
Personal comments:
Where I reside, even though it is independently chosen, the housing conditions are better than those in other student residences offered by some local housing companies.Generally, there are good student housing facilities in my host unversity country.

Why? Even if it was very expesive for me, it was relatively cheap compared with regular apartment prices in the inner city. My host university also arranged it very quickly and unbureaucraticly.
Personal comments:
I lived in Lappi, there you have tiny apartments, with TV but no internet connection, wich you have when you choose Harustie or Pasila. You can walk within few minitues to the university, the inner city or the sea. -> best location of all student accomodations!

Why? Because this way of living is the best combination between learning needs and partying.
Personal comments:
A lot of exchange students are situated very close together, that is why we spend time together. Although the place is not in the city center, there is very nice neighborhood of forest and beach.

thay organize it through an organisation called HOAS. i think that if i had any problems my university was not fully responsible, but this organisation

Why? apartment was very beautiful and roommates were very nice ... living alone probably would be boring
Personal comments:
my roommates and me were very lucky with our accomodation: rent was quite cheap for helsinki and the apartment was bigger than the others. although we had to use the metro to get into the centre, the "travelling time" was not too bad (about 20 minutes) and it was made up through the beautiful landscape we lived in (near the forest and the sea).

Why? Because it is well located (20 min from down-town, near the forest and the sea, in a student area). Moreover, I share it with two flatmates: one Spanish and Swedish. Therefore, the atmosphere is very international and friendly.
Personal comments:
If you go to Hanken, choose Harustie as your accomodation. The apartment is cheap, many students live there, it is not that far from Helsinki and rooms are big!

Personal comments:
Very good organised by the host university. Very good location: near university and near city center. Around 20 exchange students lived there together, which was interessting and great. The only negative aspect was that there was no native (=Finish students) in our house.
