HOUSING
by Alicia, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Engineering, Technology, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? Because you have the chance of knowing a lot of different people in the same sitution as you, and that makes you feel more integrated.
Personal comments:
The residences are big, there are lots of students and also events where you can meet a lot of people. Being clean or not depends on the people you live with, but it is normally ok! It is quite cheap, you can have a room for 250 to 350 euro, and although it might be far from city center or the University, it is very good communicated. Public transport works very good and you will be able to arrive any place in 20 min. The University is new. There is one campus in the city centre and another 20min away, but teachers tend to help international students because german language is quite difficult, and that helps to learn faster! STUDENT LIFE
by Alicia, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Madrid, Spain
Engineering, Technology, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There are a lot of erasmus parties and trips or events. To be updated with all that news you have to loggin at TUMIS web page. In my opinion erasmus parties are funny, but getting involved with the german culture, going out with them and attend to their parties is also an important part of the erasmus life. Stammtisch every monday is a good moment to meet all erasmus people and also the Kneipe Tour at the beguining of each semester. There is time for erasmus life but also to integrate in the german culture! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
For me; all the time there are things to be fixed to be enhanced. Course context are getting better each day but can be dealed with elective courses as well.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
In my country they are trying to apply a new system similar to America. But sometimes because of the cultural differences sometimes it makes me think how suitable is this system to us. Both the university and the other foundations have to financially support and encourage students to be more enthusiastic for scientific researchs. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your German?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
if you meet exchange students you learn a strange german, it is better to meet german students, but it´s not so easy. The tumis provide a tandem service so that you can meet german students that are learning your language. There is no problem if you don´t mind speaking your language so that they can practice and learn it.It is a little bit annoying. The best thing is to meet german students that don´t speak your language This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by Alicia, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Madrid, Spain

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Family An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I spend a lot of money in trips, because once you are in the middle of europe you have to take advanntage of it and know other places. Food was very cheap. In Germany there are some very cheap supermakets (Aldy or Plus) were you can buy a lot for very few money. On telephone I didnt spend much money because we used to meet each other via facebook or talk via Skype, so I didnt use my handy for long conversation. Going out in the night can be cheap or not, depend on the places you go or what you drink. Yo always had to pay to get in but the student places are quite cheap. Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food, Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The erasmus organization sends emails to meet the people, and there students that are leaving advertise their old items to sell for a good price This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Before my erasmus experience I may say, I did not have self confident with my education as a student in a non-european country. But after the erasmus, I've seen that here in my country we are educated that can be competed with the world standards and also the other opportunities we have are also considerable. Now I know that there is no country that I am not capable of working and studying further. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I think it was a great university. In every step of my erasmus experience each person that I've been contacted to, helped me so much. And also as an advantage most of the people in Germany can speak English very fluently not like in France.. FINAL COMMENTS
It was such a good experience for me make me feel more comfortable with communication with others. I believe it helps me to organize my future much more broader than my colleagues. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
