Exceeded my expectations

United States,
Engineering, 2024
Overall
As a minority student coming into a predominantly white institution like Texas A&M University, I would say it was a surprisingly accommodating experience. There were a plethora of organizations fit for any archetype of any person present in the university. Furthermore, the hospitable environment with raging school pride always amazes me as I walk around the campus.

Careers
The career office at Texas A&M is up to par with other universities.  Although the internships at Texas A&M University aren't abundant, there are plenty of research opportunities for upperclassmen to shadow professors in the particular field he/she wants to pursue. The career advising center is also standard since Texas A&M has such a massive student body population with over 60,000 undergraduate students that it would be hard for every counselor to adhere to everyone's needs.

Overall
Texas A&M had a great STEM program with a lot of different options to pursue. The faculty was always knowledgeable and willing to meet outside of regular class hours if extra  help or clarification was needed. The campus was great and had all the amenities you would expect or need.

Careers
Yes, there are programs that allow interested students to seek out internships both at home and abroad, though I personally did not take advantage of the ones offered by the university while I was there.

Overall
Texas A&M is a great university located in College, Station Texas. The campus culture is very involved and welcoming. The engineering school is high quality. My only complaint is that it is in a very small town. I still love it though!

REVIEWS BY INTERNS AT Texas A&M University
High School Internship
Back in high school, I was always curious about how healthcare professionals work on a day-to-day basis. I didn't want to shadow a hospital doctor as I didn't feel that suited my personal preferences--rather I wanted something a little calmer but one that I could still learn a lot about. This led me to apply to a local physical therapy center near my residence and from my sophomore year of high school to my senior year, I shadowed plenty of practicing physical therapists to gain knowledge on not only the ins and outs of physical therapy but the communication skills as well while engaging with clients.
ABOUT
Texas A&M, the state's first public institution of higher education, was opened in 1876 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas. In 1963, the name of the institution was changed to Texas A&M University to more accurately reflect its expanding role as a leader in teaching, research, and public service for the state, nation and world.
