Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: With a family
Why? CUNY does not provide housing on campus; you shouldn't live all by yourself - family: new friends, care, low costs! maybe later own apartment!!
Personal comments:
no living on campus - you have to look for housing by yourself! take your time - expensive!!

I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Personal comments:
My friends are amazed. I know, I could have learned much more. I didn't take any language classes, would have been good though! Spend time in front of TV/radio and with native speakers; tell them to correct you whenever you make a mistake - "only" way to get better?!?

Personal spending habits:
bad exchange rate, plus USA and esp. NYC are very very expensive!!
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
health insurance - although never needed, Diners Club Credit Card provides you with good health insurance without extra costs!! food on the street is less expensive (even McDonalds is more expensive!) - eg. HotDogs in Financial District $1 - Times Square $2 !! China Town: Food sold on the street (fried rice, fried noodles, egg rolls,..) for $ 1 !!

How to deal with 'going home again'?!? You'll have to leave friends! Think about what you would do, if you would want to stay and not to go back to your home country again!!
In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills

Became more independent
Partied a lot

Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
I went to Kingsborough Community College in Brooklyn. A wonderful wonderful campus - the Atlantic ocean on three sides of the campus and own beach!!! - however probalby a long commute!!
