HOUSING

Personal assessment
Cost
KEY:
Couldn't have asked for more.
Pretty good.
Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.
Facilities
Location
Cleanliness
Space
Type of housing: on campus then 2nd - 4th years off campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? Off campus living is really where it's at, its like a university village around the School's campus are and being that next door to Tulane you have Loyola University, living off campus is truly where the social life is.
Personal comments:
I was put inot a dormatory (on campus) my first year, teh accomodations were average, however the experience of living in a US dorm was amazing. Teh school does offer on campus housing for 2nd 3rd and 4th year students but that's not where the life is. As for otehr accomodations you really can't ask for more, a pool, tennis courts, raquetball courts, a weight room, great computer facilities, etc... the food could be a tad better at the mess halls, mut that goes for all uni's globally i think.

Personal social experience
Activities
KEY:
Amazing! Hardly had time to study.
Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
I'm a born snob, and a party animal, so I liek some of the more distinguished places. I would recoomend DosJeffes on Tchapatoulas, Whiskey Bar, Whiskey Blue, Foundation Room, The Matador, DBA, the Spotted Cat (all downtown), the Colums Hotel on St. Charles Ave. For places around campus there's always Phillips, which boats attractive female bartenders and has a wonderful ambiance, as well as an outside patio when the owner decides to open it. The local watering hole "The Boot" provides Tulane college students with their daily intake of alchohol adn tabacco, as well as a number of other local bars. For the true party animal, I would reccomend Igors (St. Charles & Jackson Ave), Snake n' Jakes (Oak) and Miss May's or known to the new crowd as "The Club" (on Magazine and Napoleon) The last get good at about 4-5 am and are open 24/7. Have fun and be safe.

Overall
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang)
My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Personal comments:
Before I even got to New Orleans, people often thought I was American, so I had no problems with the language. But I did notice that many of the local students were very open towards me, while some of the other foreign students had problems, because they were not as good at speaking English.

Almost impossible.

Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Government assistance
Other sources of funding:
Family
Personal savings
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
Food and going out is considerably more expensive in Denmark than in New Orleans, thus although I ate out more and went more to bars and clubs In Ner Orleans, I ended up spending less. Housing on the other hand was more expensive than at home, this was due tot he fact that in Denmark I lived in a dorm , while in New Orleans I rented a whole house with just one person to share it with. Obviously I did more travelling when on exchange, thus spent more money on it.
Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Food, Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
none
