HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I just prefer to do these things independently and find a place i know i will like
Personal comments:
The campus is well out of town, half an hour at least, and so living in the student village on campus just didnt appeal. I think most rooms were shared as well, which is not ideal. You can get them to find you a host family, but i went independently, as did practically everyone else i met, and its definitely better i reckon This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Weekly trips to watch Barca or Espanyol are a must. Republic House is run by English lads but with a great mix of people, nothing like your average British run bar in Barcelona. Razzmatazz, Apolo, La Paloma are excellent clubs This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Just make sure you dont pick something taught in Catalan if you are not learning it too, its quite an easy trap to fall into.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Not really, just make sure you make as much an effort as possible to integrate fully with local students, something i definitely didnt do enough of This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
Im not taking into account Catalan, but it is all over the place here. Maybe i should have made more of an effort to learn it too but i just wanted to improve my spanish as much as possible, and i definitely did. That said, it would surely have been more beneficial, looking back, to have gone to a smaller town somewhere less touristy in that sense! EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Living costs in general were slightly lower, but i reated the year like one long holiday really, an experience of a lifetime, and so i ate out more, travelled more etc and so had no problems spending that bit more Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Avoid the Eixample district and instead look to Gracia for cheaper housing. Very good location for city amenities and for university, but a lot cheaper in most cases! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
