HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I did enjoy living with a family because it gave me an inside look at the Spanish culture, but since I do already have that experience I would like to go back and have more freedom in my home there.
Personal comments:
The program, API, was very accommodating for those who had housing problems. Such as there was one person who had issues with his host family and the program immediately found him a better placement. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
For those who like to dance, there were plenty of clubs like the outdoor club Sumo alongside the river. As well as the ever popular club Boss that played lots of American Pop music, and Catedral the disco bar. For those who like quiet outdoor cafes, Triana was the section of town to visit. One of the more interesting bars by far had to be La Carboneria, which offers art exhibits, jazz, folk and brazilian music as well as flamenco shows in the evening. El Centro is the area to go shop since it has the most traditional shopping area. As for food, one has to try tapas while in Sevilla. They are small portions of all kinds of food. ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Although the university offers classes in English, it is more beneficial to you to take the Spanish-speaking courses only. It may be frustrating at first but you learn much quicker.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
I think there should more encouragement and more venues to interact with the local students. Sometimes the school felt segregated. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
My only qualm with the university was the segregation between the international and local students. Although it was not the university's fault that I was not as involved with the local students, I did feel interaction was not as encouraged as it should have been on either side. EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Food and housing were included in my initial costs for the program. I did not use the telephone nearly as much as I do at home therefore costs were lower. Finally, travel was more expensive because I traveled much more than I would have at home. Travel: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Food, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
If you plan to travel a lot it will save you money to buy a Eurail pass. As well, for filling but cheap food there are low-cost tapas and bocadillas. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I had realized how much I would stick out so that I could have mentally prepared for the stares and cat calls. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I believe it is a great university for those who are beginner Spanish speakers and are nervous of being thrown into the mix without any safety nets. They do offer Spanish courses in English. As well, it is a new university with clean facilities. FINAL COMMENTS
Travelling while abroad can be fun when done spontaneously, but be aware of the time restrictions since you are attending classes during the week. Take in as much of the culture as you can as well as take advantage of all the opportunities that will involve you more in the community and the university. Lastly, make friends with the locals. They can teach you things books can't and they can give you experiences that will last forever. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
