HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I enjoyed having my own apartment so that I wouldn't have to deal with the rules of living in someone else's house.
Personal comments:
I lived with 2 Chilean women, which enabled me to experience Chilean culture more personally. I became good friends with my roommates and we keep in touch. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There was a restaurant close to my house called Liguria. It was always packed with people, which I like a lot. I lived in the community of Providencia in Santiago and I thought that it was a great place to live. There are a lot of trees there and I found it to be a very convenient location within the city. My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
I found them less organized than the courses I am used to at my University at home. It would have been helpful if our reading assignments and coursework had been scheduled and explained to me more clearly.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
I would have liked the courses to be more creative, they were all lecture style, which was very boring. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
Chilean Spanish is very difficult because they speak fast and with a lot of slang. Interacting with the locals and conducting a project about sland helped me access the culture and people better. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by sara, University of California, San Diego, San Diego, United States
Area, Ethnic, and Cultural Studies, University Agreement
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Family Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work Personal spending habits:
I don't travel when I am at home, but when I was in Chile I tried to see as much of the country as possible, which was a big expense. Overall, my everyday necesities and activities were cheaper than they are in California. Travel: was more expensive than at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The price of clothing in Chile was the most surprising. I thought it was very expensive for how low quality it was. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
No, not knowing things made them more fun to discover. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
It is very important to consider one's concentration of study before deciding to go to this University. The academic departments varied greatly by how much money they had or what resources were available to the students. FINAL COMMENTS
The real learning that takes place in Chile isn't necesarily in the classroom, but in your everday tasks while living there. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
