HOUSING
by Franziska, Otto-von-Guericke-Universitaet Magdeburg, Magdeburg, Germany
European Studies, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? I have been totaly satisfied with my accomodation.
Personal comments:
Usually students in Murcia look for housing by themselves. That's why I can't give any comment about housing at this university. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by Charlotte, University of Hull, Hull, United Kingdom
Language, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Badulake is the main bar for international students and sells cheap drinks on Wednesdays (Erasmus night). Many other cheap bars are located around La Merced campus in the city centre. The tapas bars in and around Plaza de las Flores should not be missed! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Try as many courses as possible in the first few weeks to ensure you study something you're going to enjoy. You usually have around a month until you have to register. Make sure you know how much work you will be expected to do before you register for a course. In some literature courses you will be expected to read as much as Spanish students, which can be up to 11 books a semester!

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish How much did you improve your Spanish?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I chose to study in Spain, because I had lived there earlier learning spanish, and I saw it as a possibility to go back and improve and practise my spanish. That was also the reason why I chose to arrange with accomodation for my self. The first time I lived in Spain I lived with international student, and I spoke english a lot. This time I wanted to speak spanish and get to know the spanish culture more profoundly. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Local supermarkets and restaurants (partuicualrly the tapas bars) tend to be cheaper than at home. Calling home is obviously more expensive but you should buy a Spanish SIM card to communicate with friends in Spain. Housing is generally the same or cheaper. There is a lot going on at night, especially for Erasmus students (more or less from Tuesday - Saturday) but on the plus side alcohol tends to be much cheaper than at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Murcia is much cheaper than larger cities such as Madrid or Barcelona. Supermarkets such as Mercadona and Dia offer the best value. Apartments around the university tend to be more expensive than those further from the Campus but are generally not as modern/comfortable. Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
Not really. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The university is not very big, so you have a nice atmosphere and will get to know people easily. Before starting a course you should take attention that the courses are held in a different way than in other countries. FINAL COMMENTS
Murcia is a nice town that offers a stay at low expenses. But one should be aware that people from Murcia tend to be quiete conservative. Night life is good and there are many cultural things to see. Have fun! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
