Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Alameda de Santo António dos Capuchos 1, 1169-047 Lisboa, Portugal, Lisbon
Description:
The Technical University of Lisbon (UTL) was created in 1930, as a confederation of older Faculties, and comprises, nowadays, those of Veterinary Medicine; Agricultural Sciences; Economics and Business Administration; Engineering, Social and Political Sciences; Architecture; and Human Kinetics. Despite being one of the largest Portuguese State Universities, the UTL has always adopted a decentralised organisational model. All Faculties have an ample degree of autonomy in pedagogic, scientific, administrative and financial matters.

HOUSING
by Claudia, Fachhochschule Rheinlandpfalz - Abteilung Kaiserslautern, Kaiserslautern, Germany

Personal assessment
Type of housing: shared flat
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? The school didn't offer rooms on campus. The ones that were there were for underpreviliged students. Best chances to get a good sieze/cost value is to share flats, hoping not to be to late to get one in a flat already rented by students. Best ones are usually gone at the beginning/middle of September
Personal comments:
The person in charge of the program sure was no help in finding an accommondation. It was very hard to get use to the appartment-market, but once understanding the rules and reducing my expectations it was possible to get a nice room if willing to pay the price This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:

Tue/WED/THU is Lady's night.T:Queens(E15/18) with male strip at 2:30am, but real bad service at Lady's bar/men pay 3000ESC incl. drinkvalue; W:"Gringo's" (E15/18)stylish biker-bar, 80's music, great service at Lady's bar especially when tipping 500ESC at arrival/men 2000ESC incl. drinkvalue; PLATEAU (E15 or walking distance from Cais do Sodrč) great 80's music, like all night clubs won't start before 2am / men 2000ESC drinkvalue T: INDOCHINA if you didn't get enough the night before in PLATAEU, KAPITAL only if the guy in the door likes you. wouldn't pay more than 3000ESC, too expensive, but interesting to watch all the wanna-be's F: LUX best club in town, great music, fantastic interior, strange, good mix of people, open till 8am, 2000ESC to get in the door So many places, so many different styles ...AND THIS WAS JUST THE NIGHT LIFE!!! can you imagine how much there is to do during day time??? just contact me for more info This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by Claudia, Fachhochschule Rheinlandpfalz - Abteilung Kaiserslautern, Kaiserslautern, Germany
Interior Design, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Government assistance Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant work over there while going to university Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
Prieces are higher trough import situation I guess.Plus I got way less payed for the same time/work Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
I didn't expect the room to be so expensive. The general rule that products in big stores are cheaper does not apply! Most of the time they are equal and not worth the time to go out all the way to the superstores. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
not really =) In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
although the personell is nice, you have to be prepared it's a specific country and not everythng is always on schedule, so don't be surprised if the will be late in any way(administration, classes, information..)...take it easy! FINAL COMMENTS
travel asmuch as you can, enjoy every moment of your stay. i would reccomend if visiting south of portugal to go and visit the town of Tavira and the island(Ilha de Tavira)..it's amazing.if you can try also to take surf course(they have some close to lisbon- beach called Carcavelhos, it's on the way o Cascais-take the local train from Cais do Sodre in Lisbon), girls watch out for annyoing boys =)and take care of your skin..the sun can get pretty hot! and deffinetly take some capoeira classes(there's a good angola group in Lisbon, close to Elevador da Gloria) This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
