Don't expect to find a big city, when you go to Coimbra. It's small, but cosy! It's easy to meet other foreign students. You'll learn to appreciate the academic traditions, although they might seem odd in the beginning. Visit Lisbon, it's a beautiful city and easy to reach by bus (or train, but bus is cheaper). Go to Figueira da Foz, by train, and enjoy a walk along the beach in February! And just enjoy your stay, it's worth it! Read Review

Personal comments:
The portuguese life-style is something you have to get used to. Teachers showing up late, lack of computers, bureaucracy, not knowing whether you will have lessons.. but, the good news: you do get used to it! You'll learn to show up late yourself and find computers in faculties as Medicine or Letters. (although you might not be allowed to use them, use them, you're a foreign student!)

Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
it does get cold and wet in Portugal!
In my opinion:
Most people loved it.

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
Don't expect to find the Oxford of Portugal. They might call it that, but it isn't. Yes, it is old and the old university is beautiful (if you study law, you're lucky to have lessons there!), but the level of education isn't Oxford-wise!
