Exchange students talk english between them because most of them don't know portuguese at all. That doesn't help you improve the language of course.

The portuguese life-style is something you have to get used to. Teachers showing up late, lack of computers, bureaucracy, not knowing whether you will have lessons.. but, the good news: you do get used to it! You'll learn to show up late yourself and find computers in faculties as Medicine or Letters. (although you might not be allowed to use them, use them, you're a foreign student!)

Some of them are not very reliable, but I would say that 90% of the apartments are very good. Other housing is available too.

It got easier every day, but sometimes it was hard to have to listen to Portuguese in class for 8 hours a day. I was surprised I could actually speak Portuguese so good already, but I still feel I have learned a lot.
