HOUSING
by karin_kakkie, hogeschool edith stein/oct, Hengelo, Netherlands
Education, Primary, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? It was avery good place in teh center of the city, central with good facilities and options to go where I wanted to
Personal comments:
It was a very new appartement, from a woman who also lived in teh same building. She loves money, but she was very nice. The only thing what bothered me were the other girls who also lived in the same appartement, they only speaked portugese, and I didn't quite well. Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
tasquilado is the best place for night. for wednesday nights Bar academica next to the residence is a good option to spend all night. Cervejeria Martins in Largo do Tural is a nice pub to eat and drink for the early hours of the night before going out. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
They all are made in Portuguese so you really need to be fluent to attend them; or ask the teacher if you can make a report in English
My opinion of the university assessment

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Portuguese
Was learning Portuguese a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Portuguese How much did you improve your Portuguese?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
There are two points; I met some Potuguese people at the University, or somewhere else, who allowed me to practice and to improve my Portuguese. However with the erasmus students I mostly speak English because only few of them can speak Portuguese; but we sometimes try and help each other in improving our skills. Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
becouse at home I don't telephone so much, but when I was in Braga, I called a lot to my parents and sisters. Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Travel: was the same price as at home. Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
live in braga is not that expensive, but when you head to the south, it is very expensive. Becouse of the touristic places. If you live quite normal, it won't be an expencive time. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

by Jorge, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Madrid, Spain

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
To know better the local language In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
To improve in the quality of some courses and to be ready when problems from the administration have taken place FINAL COMMENTS
To know a new country, language and people from a lot of countries is a real experience, wonderful. The local people were good in general, some better than others. But, in general, there were no big diferences in culture between mine and portuguese, but more than i expected This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
