Plenty to do when I had the time.
So-so.
Did not get involved.
Nightlife
Travel
Overall
Describe host city:
Activities, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Nightlife: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment
Personal comments:
Weekly student meeting in the Cardillac (Via degli Alfani) - ask for the AEGEE guys Mario (always has tickests for the coolest clubs), Luigi, Alessio, Roberto (born organisers). Don't miss: Full up, the Latin American disco "Jaraguar", The Central Park, concerts in Santo Spirito, for chocolate Lovers: Hemingway (even have chocolate spoons!!), also don't miss the different "sagre"!! Avoid cafŔs , bars etc. in the center/near Ponte Vecchio - they are tourist traps!

ACADEMIC
by skazedon, Karl Franzens Universitńt Graz, Graz, Austria
Education, Secondary, Erasmus
My academic experiences
Quality of courses
KEY:
Fantastic.
Pretty good.
Could've been a bit better.
Disappointing.
Variety of courses
Availability/access to resources
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with other international students
Interaction with local students
Course recommendations:
Fantastic but very demanding Italian literature and linguistic courses! Prof. Massimo Fanfani (linguistics) is great speaks slowly and is very helpful! Avoid English literature classes with a certain Pugliati - dreadful pronunciation and unfair! Talk to your teachers - they are very helpful and definitely want to pass you! Classes last the whole year - try to take mid-term exams whenever possible.

My opinion of the university assessment
Exams at end of course
KEY:
Liked it.
It was alright.
A bit annoying.
Didn't like it.
Exams throughout the course
Essays and/or projects at the end of course.
Essays and/or projects throughout the course
Overall
Personal comments:
The libraries are a desaster! There are very little computers on the campus. (Try Via Alfani - for law students only but open till 11 p.m.). And please pleas get an air condition - the heat in summer kills you!

Social
KEY:
No problems.
I coped pretty well.
Sometimes it was difficult.
It was a constant struggle.
Educational
Administrative / Institutional
Overall
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian
How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
Most Italians who you can socialise with, are really interested in meeting a native English speaker who wants to learn their language, and will make an effort to socialise with you and help you. But the initial 'getting to know them' is hard, we found the men are really forward in wanting to know the girls, the Italian women generally don't wanna know anyone but Italian men. And foreign guys are pretty much at a disadvantage, unless your female friends introduce you to their Italian male-friends!

EXPENSES
by Joel, Sheffield Hallam University, Sheffield, United Kingdom
Business Studies, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience
Personal spending habits:
being new to an area means you want to discover new places and try new things, which results in spending more, it was worth it though, it's all part of learning the culture.
Food, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Travel: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
cost saving tips for train travel, use www.trenok.it, for travelling to other countries use ryanair, booking enough in advance can mean amazing savings (I went to Sardinia for 20 euros from Pisa!). Go to restaurants and try their local foods, its a great way of learning new words and taking in a bit of culture too, eating out is not as pricey as the UK either, so, sometimes it's cheaper to eat out than go to the supermarket and cook yourself!

Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.

Personal recommendation:
I personally think they should make more of an effort to know and interact with the exchange students so the feel a little more at ease entering such a diverse environment.

FINAL COMMENTS

Absorb everything sit back and look closely at what you have accomplished, try your hardest to intake everything and everyone who passes through your life. Though sometimes things can get rough remember eventually things will get better and tomorrow you will be a little bit stronger then yesterday.
