HOUSING
by Carla, Universidade de Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal
Law, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? The ERASMUS experience should be lived in community, with other foreign and native italian students so that we can make a deeper cultural exchange.
Personal comments:
It's very difficult to find a house in Genoa. There are no campus, the University doesn't get involved.. Because of this, the landlords get advantage of the needing situation of the students, specially ERASMUS. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE

Business Studies, University Agreement
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Porto Banana - bar for Erasmus students, party each Thursday night Jasmine - best disco in town near Piazza Dante In the summer, you should go to "Monumento" where you can go swimming during the day and have an "aperitivo" in the evening "5 maggio" - best pizza in town, lovely place at the beach This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
There needs to be more information given from the home university on courses, as we had huge problems at the beginning of term as neither the home or host university appeared to be in coordination with one another.
My opinion of the university assessment

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: My level after: Personal comments:
Italian language is not so difficult to read, because also Portuguese comes from Latin. To understand linstening was much more difficult and speaking was a mixture of words and gestures. Anyway, it turned out to be great learning a new language. It helped me a lot living with an italian person. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by Carla, Universidade de Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal
Law, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
Everything is more expensive in Italy than in Portugal, specially food and drink. And for telephone I spent more because of international calls. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
It's more difficult than I thought. Anyway, eating in restaurants is not a good idea. We have to pay a tax (different from one restaurant to another) just for being there, called "coperto". It's better to buy food and cook at home. Internet is very expensive in Internet points, and the time that University has internet available is about 5 hours per day: It doesn't satisfy the needs of every student. OVERALL
by Carla, Universidade de Coimbra, Coimbra, Portugal

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
No. Not knowing the next step is "the feeling" in ERASMUS experience. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
The burocracy on arrival is tiring and disappointing. Make it easier! Keeping internet available more hours and libraries open through the night would also be good. FINAL COMMENTS
I'm loving all the good and not so good things of this experience. There is nothing that needs special attention. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
