HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: halls
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: halls
Why? not the nicest place to live, but you meet loads of people
Personal comments:
was cheap and cheerful. not the place to go if you're loking to get lots of work done, as it was a party atmosphere. Also not as restrictive as UK halls. However was v badly organised by the OAD, who are hopeless; this can sometimes work to your advantage (not having to pay a deposit) but more often than not works agains you. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students equally interact with the local and student community
Travel: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Activities: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
There are many clubs along the Ring (Vienna´s center is surrounded by a big ring), like Chelsea (with great life concerts) or B72. But the place to go is Flex, near the Danube canal, with funny partys and other events. Vienna is the city of cafes as well. In Hawelka Cafe (Dorotheergasse) you can enjoy the traditional atmosphere of an austrian cafe. I also enjoyed Hummel cafe (Josefstädterstrasse) and Kandinsky cafe (Lerchenfelder Straße, near Pfeilheim, my residence). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Not really... it depends on what you are interested in. But BWZ (the Center for business studies of the University of Vienna) has lots of good teachers in the different fields of business. However, marketing courses there are generally NOT very "foreign students -friendly"...! Finance courses are very good!
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
No... just, try to understand the system, and check the list of courses before you have to select yours (the PISWI-system is efficient but courses are not very easy to find on the website). This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: English
Local language was: Different than language of instruction.
Was learning English a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my English Was learning the local language a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my knowledge How much did you improve your English?
My level before: No problems in any areas (including slang) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) How much did you improve your local language?
My level before: At ease in most situations My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
All the courses (Industrial Economy, Macroeconomics, Public Finance..) were in English, I think it´s neccesary to speak English if you study Economics. Learning German was easy because every day I met many austrian students, in fact most of them were really interested in knowing more about my home culture and habits. EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
Personal savings An ERASMUS grant Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
Because I live with my parents in Madrid. Housing is more or less so expensive as in Madrid, nightlife is more expensive, and I travelled a lot. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Erasmus grant is too little, you can´t live only with it. My residence was a surprise for me, because it was quite good and costs only 250 € per month. Maybe the best cost-saving tip is not going clubbing too often. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Vienna University is nice, but unfortunately the international student community is quite quiet there.. But everybody finds friends there. take a language course at the beginning of the semester and you'll find nice people! FINAL COMMENTS
Vienna is a great place, I would go back there any time! Just try to make the best out of it, meet many people, travel to the great cities close to Vienna, enjoy the arts and environment of Vienna...! You'll love it! :) ps. Taking a language course before/at the beginning of the term may help you make some friends there! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
