HOUSING
by Sara, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands
Literature, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: C.R.O.U.S.
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? more quiet and no bugs/ cog roaches
Personal comments:
lots of international students and French speaking Africans, very mixed cultural backgrounds. Rooms were small (9 square meters) and had no kitchen (no fridge) or toilet. Toilets and showers were shared and well maintained, relatively clean. Supermarket on 5 min. walk. University not far away either (10 min. bike). Subway station very nearby. Some rooms (including mine) had nasty cog roaches. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

STUDENT LIFE
by Sara, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Groningen, Netherlands
Literature, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Festivals: La Louche d'Or (Wazemmes street festival) La fete de la musique (forgot which day/night it was) l'Áéronef (rock concerts) I went to see the White Stripes there when they were just getting known in Europe; cost me about 15 euros This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
The language courses are very good, a lot of practical information
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Utrecht University is one with different places for courses. Why don't we have one building at one place, so you could have better contact with teachers, other students and you can avoid travelling This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't. How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Basic phrases My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
In accademic situations, people were well disposed towards talking slowly or repeating things. In social life, external to accademic scene, sometimes it was difficult to grasp everything in the conversation. But with a smile and a kind way of excusing myself for not understanding made life quite easy. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by Tagataga, Università degli Studi di Siena, Siena, Italy

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Family Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant job Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
Accomodation expenses are supplied by a government support (CAF) wich refund the 20-30% of the rent. Nightlife: drinks are cheeper and there are many free festivals around, discounts for students Travel: is possible to buy a card for train and metro wich gives the 20% off any ticket or season-ticket Food, Overall, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Travel, Nightlife, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
To get the rent refund is important to open a bank account in France. Don't forget to take your birth certificate along with you: it's necessary to ask for the account. Take a day to go shopping in malls or other shopping centers... price are always lower!!! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
No. Local and hosting universities satisfied all my doubts. In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Good university, built for students and their needs (different restaurants on campus, nurse always avaible for everything, international office great in answering to all doubts and efficient in help when needed, enormous inner library, easy to reach with public transportations, different housing accomodations offered). FINAL COMMENTS
Only one piece of information, which eveyone just forgot to say (including the bank): when you want to close you bank account you must book an appointment with your bank assistant something like one week before leaving!! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
