Why? that way you might have more contact to french people and not only to other erasmus students
Personal comments:
it was a little bit too expensive(which was not so bad as every student gets financial aid for living in france) and not very safe(burglars) nor clean (insects and mice), but all in all acceptable.

Why? Its the best way to meet new people and its at a good price and in a good location.
Personal comments:
CROUS organise accomodation for you if you apply in advance, you should request a room in Van Dyck, and you should request to be off the ground floor if you are a girl just for security reasons.

Why? Differently. Avignonn is very isolated, very expensive, and lacking in students.

Why? Although the Halls were not that nice, you meet so many people there
