HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: Halls of residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Halls of residence
Why? I was really happy with the accomodation provided
Personal comments:
There are quite a few different halls in Pavia. I was in Golgi, where i had a single, en-suite room. There was a kitchen per floor (per 12 rooms) with full oven and hob, fridge, freezer. Bedding is provided for erasmus students and the communal areas are cleaned daily. The one thing it lacked was a decent social area. STUDENT LIFE
by Christina, Universität Mannheim, Mannheim, Germany
Marketing and Sales Management, Erasmus
Personal social experience
Describe host city: Student life dominates the city
Nightlife: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Activities, Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
The very best ice-cream was to buy at "Vanilli“s" near the "piazza". The Dublino, an Irish Pub, used to be our meeting point. For dancing people I can recommend the "ombelico". This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Didn't find them very exigent. Maybe because I was a foreign student... Liked the seminars during Marketing course.
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Yes. More projects! The courses aren't very difficult and therefore you tend to feel too relaxed about them. Some projects throughout courses would help learn more and get more interested. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: Italian
Was learning Italian a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Italian How much did you improve your Italian?
My level before: Did not speak it My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) Personal comments:
The first thing I did when I arrived at Pavia was an italian exam (written and spoken). I was put on a class from the first level. I liked very much my teacher and I had italian lessons during all 6 months. And, as most of the people (locals) did not speak english, I really had to improve my italian! When I left Pavia, I was feeling very confortable with the language. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
by Ana, Universidade do Porto, Porto, Portugal

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I spent more money mostly on travelling because every weekend I travelled through Italy. On the other hand, I spent less in nightlife because I used to go out much more in Porto than in Pavia. In general, I spent more in food and telephone because the prices are higher in Italy. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Housing: was the same price as at home. Nightlife: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
In order to save money, I made almost all meals at home, cooking. I avoided restaurants but, from time to time I went to the University Cantine. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

OVERALL

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
More detailed information about the courses. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Think more about the student community. Pavia's University has very expensive facilities even for the italian students. FINAL COMMENTS
I loved my experience. But I found Pavia a very "bourjois" town where not everybody can live well. From canteen meals to nightlife, everything is expensive wich makes people stay home. Despite the University, Pavia isn't the university town I would imagine. But "l'Italia č bella"! and I had the opportunity to travel a lot and get to know it well and just loved every little detail. In the end, I would have done it all the same! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
