Buy yourself a good tourbook before you leave and a few rolls of film + camera. Make the most of it! Eat at the local bakeries and experience German clubs (the music is much better than in North America!!). Read Review

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? It was very convenient.
Personal comments:
People at the accommodations office were very helpful and the students were also very friendly. The room had a bathroom and a kitchen...very private atmosphere; however, a great way to meet students.

EXPENSES
by Ruth, Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, Ireland
Language, Erasmus
The accessibility of student needs
Second-hand text books
KEY:
Very easy.
Minimal effort.
Accessible but required effort.
Almost impossible.
Second-hand household items
Computers / Internet
Administrative
Money from home
Main source of funding:
Family
Other sources of funding:
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits:
Food was great because it was slightly cheaper than Ireland but to eat out was sometimes expensive enough, my telephone did cost a fortune because I was trying my best to stay in touch with friends from home. I also did quite a bit of travelling around Germany so that was quite pricy and also the cost of flights to Ireland at Christmas and holidays.
Travel, Telephone: was more expensive than at home.
Food, Nightlife, Overall: was the same price as at home.
Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
It is vital to save as much as you can before doing Erasmus as it was definitely my most expensive university year so far

OVERALL
by Szandra, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada
Business Studies, University Agreement
Important to choosing this university...
Academic reasons
KEY:
Very Important.
Important.
Not really important.
Unimportant.
Culture
Costs
Activities
Campus life
Party / people
Weather / Location
I wish I had known...
I went there somewhat blindly...and alone as well. This was the best way to learn new things and get acquainted with new people.
In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!

During my experience abroad, I ...
Became familiar with another culture
KEY:
Happened all the time.
Happened quite a lot.
Happened a bit.
Didn't happen.
Traveled
Improved language skills
Met people from other countries
Became more independent
Partied a lot
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies/career
Personal recommendation:
If you have the chance, go to Augsburg. It is well situated in Bavaria. You have access to the Alps, Austria, Suisse and many other Central European countries...the roads are open for you to explore!
