The teachers there were required to format the courses along American standards (multiple exams, required homework, mandatory attendance). That was frustrating at times for both the teachers as well as the students.

Beer is cheaper; I traveled a lot which I don't do at home.
Travel, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home.
Food, Telephone: was the same price as at home.

Germany has special telephone numbers which you can dial to and from there you can get cheap rates to the US or other countries.
