HOUSING

Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Home university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? because the campus was far from the city and fron the facilities of the city
Personal comments:
I think housing at this university has been amazing because it was not so big, so it was easy to find what I wanted and to find someone which whom sharing my free time and my interests. From another point of view I think that a bigger city and a bigger university could give you more, about experiences and things to do. STUDENT LIFE

Personal social experience
Describe host city: Students interact with the local community without much university involvement
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Travel: Takes place both within and outside of the university/student environment Personal comments:
Rue de la République becomes very familiar in no time. I frequented a little bar across from Cathédral St. Benigne. Le marché around Place François Rude is most enjoyable. There are a couple of really cute little crèperies and bistros behind the Place. L'Atmosphère is totally over rated if you're over 27 years old. There is a charming Irish pub across the street though. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

ACADEMIC

My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
Get information before you get there so you know what they offer and what you want to take. Familiarize yourself with the French system! Be persistant in getting information once you get there and don't let yourself be discouraged by the reserved manner of people you might face. They have a lot do to at the university and tend to be a little bit unpatient. ( Madame Piroel of the English department is an angel and will do everything to help you!)
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
It's a little confusing to find out where the board is that has all the information one needs. They seem to be scattered all over the place. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
I thoroughly enjoyed my language experience In Dijon. My favorite activity was le jeu de piste. We went downtown with a list of questions and the objective was to ask the locals about their town and to become more familiar with the town by communicating with the local people. All of the teachers were very friendly and patient, and were interested to teach foreign students. The Dijonnais are fairly used to the city being full of foreign students, so they too were quite friendly It was difficult to meet other French students during the summer. I really was impressed with the over-all program. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES

The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
Personal savings Other sources of funding:
None Work opportunities:
I worked during my study abroad experience Personal spending habits:
Food is generally less expensive at the university cafeterias, and groceries seemed to be less too. I used télécartes at 50F per card to make international and local calls in France. Taking the train is certainly less expensive than gas prices and domestic airfare in the US. I never experienced a cover charge at a bar or club for that matter in France. Mixed-drinks were perhaps a little on the high side but a good beer in Dijon was only 2.75 USD. Overall, it was cheaper for me to be in France for the summer than it would have been to stay home. Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
I found that to commute between Dijon and Lyon on the weekends, it was much cheaper to buy the tickets in France than to use a RailPass. Reserve the RailPass for long journeys, otherwise the normal train is much cheaper. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I did a lot of research so I wasn't to suprised. Check train times before booking your plane ticket!!!! I had to camp out in a train station for awhile because I didn't check train times. In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
I liked it a lot. Try to go during the year when the locals actually go to school. The school is only used for international students during the summer. I would have learned a lot more during the school year. FINAL COMMENTS
Take extra money. My plane ticket was about $1250, Tution and Room about $1000, not bad! Expect to spend more than you think on food. Eat the crapes downtown, they were amazing! This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
