Université de Franche-Comté (UFC)
Université de Franche-Comté, 1, rue Claude Goudimel, 25030 Besançon, France
Description:
As early as 1423, the high reputation of the University of Franche-Comté was enough to attract famous teachers and students. Originally located in Dole, the University serving both the Duchy and the County of Burgundy. It was transferred to Besançon in 1691 by the King of France, Louis XIV. It was closed down during the French Revolution in 1793, but Emperor Napoleon re-opened it in 1809.

HOUSING
by TEENA, University of Portsmouth, Portsmouth, United Kingdom
International Relations, Erasmus
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? IT GIVES YOUTHE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET OTHER STUDENTS.
Personal comments:
THE HOUSING IN GENERAL WAS GOOD. THE ROOM SIZES WERE REASONABLE AND THEY WERE EQUIPED WITH A FRIDGE AND SINK. THE BIGGEST DISADVANTAGE WAS THE SMALL COMMUNAL KITCHEN, THERE WERE TOO MANY PEOPLE ON THE FLOOR AND ONLY TWO COOKING PLAQUES. SHOWER MAINTENANCE COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER. Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang) Personal comments:
I knew a lot less French when I arrived in France than I thought I did! It was a real struggle at first but hard work and a love for the language paid off. One semester is not enough to fully speak the language. In December when you have to leave you are just feeling at ease iin the language. Then you have to go. The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Family Personal savings An ERASMUS grant A private grant Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options Personal spending habits:
I spend much more than at home. These 5 months were like a holiday for me, and then I do not have the feeling to save money etc. Furthermore, I travelled a lot which wa sexpensive and I saved a lot of money because I was looking forward to this exchange for a long time and I wanted to do almost everything I could. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Nightlife: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
