Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Although it was very small it was newly renovated, always clean with en suite bathroom, over the road from uni buildings and a metro stop which took me into town in 5 mins. So convenient and with CAF only 105 euros a month.

Not all university accommodation was as good as mine, I had friends in alot more basic rooms, with shared bathrooms (no toilet seats) and much older buildings. Thats said they were liveable and even cheaper than mine (130 euros a month without CAF)

It is easier to meet people, both international students and French students, when you are living in a residence hall with them.

While the buildings are not very attractive, and they are far from the center of town, they are near campus, and you do get the opportunity to know a lot of people there.

Very different approach to science to the one I am used to (in comparison to my home university in Germany). Sometimes i had/have the impression to study philosophie more than psychology. Anyway, it is still an experience and I did never regret to come here.

It was essential to learning the language and culture. Students who lived in University housing simply talked to other expats and were not nearly as immersed in daily French life.

It didn't always work out perfectly for everyone, but as I said before, I think living with a host family was quite important. We all learned different things about the city through them, and were at the same time independent and able to discover things on our own. And we were able to experience smaller customs, learning how to have meals and celebrate events as they do.

It was a typical dorm with small single rooms. I liked it because it was quiet and safe.
