I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
I spent more on food and drink because my room was tiny and there was no common recreation areas in halls/on campus so going out for coffee or lunch was an essential activity to allow me to get out and see friends. Alcohol is more expensive in bars especially as there is no student union or student nights at bars/clubs. Food, Nightlife, Overall: was more expensive than at home. Travel: was the same price as at home. Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
I had to pay for the internet in halls!! Definitely would recooment signing up for CAF, its really easy and halved my rent. You just need to supply photocopies of your EHIC card, passport and evidence of your residence. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I needed to buy prepaid phone cards to make calls. I went out more often, as exchange students do. I traveled much more, and train tickets can be expensive. But as for the food, I cook, so I can be selective as to price and quality. And the accomodation was part of my program's expenses. Travel, Nightlife, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Food, Overall: was the same price as at home. Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Occasionally, you have to pay the bank to have an account. Also, you are often only paid once a month, and it sometimes takes several months before you receive your first payment. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

I think I just wasn't used to paying for everything on my own. When at home or at the university in the states, everything was already paid for. Food, Telephone: was more expensive than at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Personal comments:
Make sure to try and take advatange of any student discounts (if you're a student of course!). Travel by train can be a lot cheaper if you buy a student travel membership in France. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Because at home I had more responsibilities and in France I had more time to do other things. Housing: was more expensive than at home. Food, Telephone: was the same price as at home. Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Take a bunch of money. Be under 26 :), I was not. Buy a Eurail pass so you can travel without spending tons of money. Research calling cards before you go, you may find better deals than the ones you can find there. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Were in a remote area which was in the suburbs called Villejean. It is not safe to travel back there late at night, let alone as a girl on her own. Therefore was somewhat restricted with nightlife. Food etc and the cost of living is generally cheaper in France Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was more expensive than at home. Travel: was the same price as at home. Telephone: was less expensive than at home.
