HOUSING
Personal assessment
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why? The 'Batiment A' where most Erasmus students are placed is truly dire, nothing could be worse than this accomodation. The University continues to claim that this building is in its "last year" but to the best of my knowledge it continues to exist.
Personal comments:
Dire, truly horrific. Shared toilets for males and females. Only two working toilets for a floor of 40 students, and similarly one very small kitchen for 40 rooms. 1 washing machine and 1 dryer for the c.a. 160 students in the hall. Security very poor, one of the ressidents was running a barbour shop in the common room with 'clients' coming from other parts of town for a haircut. Atomosphere at night very intimidating with serious concerns for female ressidents. Random males would regularly knock on girls doors late in the evening claiming to have met at some previous time. STUDENT LIFE
Personal social experience
Describe host city:
Activities: Takes place mostly within the university/student environment Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment Personal comments:
The cinema 'Kinopolis' is good but going out in Mulhouse at night is not for the faint hearted. The atmosphere in the town is very hostile and the clear tensions between the 'white' and 'non-white' communities are at a head on weekend nights. ACADEMIC
My academic experiences
Course recommendations:
My opinion of the university assessment
Personal comments:
Better coordinating for Erasmus students would be appreciated, it was hard to find out what the value of the courses were in terms of ECTS credit points. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

Language difficulties
Language of instruction: French
Was learning French a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my French How much did you improve your French?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.) My level after: At ease in most situations Personal comments:
It was hard to find contact with French students. They tended to want to keep to themselves and out of the 160 people in my halls of ressidence only 2 were French. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself

EXPENSES
The accessibility of student needs
Main source of funding:
An ERASMUS grant Other sources of funding:
Personal savings Work opportunities:
I didn't want/need to work Personal spending habits:
Costs for most things were cheaper than in Scotland in Mulhouse. Night life is very expensive though with people paying up to 8€ for a single drink in one of the few night clubs in the town. Nightlife: was more expensive than at home. Food, Travel, Overall, Telephone, Housing: was less expensive than at home.

OVERALL
Important to choosing this university...
I wish I had known...
I wish I'd known how bad the halls were, I wouldn't have stayed there if I'd known. In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
During my experience abroad, I ...
Personal recommendation:
Come here and use it's location to travel. The town centre is nice but there's not that much to do beyond that. Go to Colmar, Strasbourg, Freiburg, Basel etc for day trips to brighten up your stay. FINAL COMMENTS
Mulhouse is 15km from Germany and 30km from Switzerland so use the location to our advantage and travel. Get yourself a 'Carte 12-25' to save cash with SNCF. This review is the opinion of an iAgora member, and not of iAgora itself
