Personal spending habits:
Food was cheaper - we shopped in Aldi which didn't exist at home at the time. Telephone - Generally more expensive, along with the added expense of phoning home. Housing was much cheaper - we were able to claim back almost half of our rent. Nightlife in Ireland is very expensive - alcohol is much cheaper in France Travel - Travelling home and taking advantage of being in Europe. Overall - the key expenses were cheaper in France
Travel, Telephone: was more expensive than at home.
Food, Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Apply for the carte de sejour as this will allow you to claim half your rent back. If you planning on having a few drinks, alcolol is very cheap in the supermarkets. Take some of the cheap bus trips to visit the surrounding areas.

I traveled more because I was studying abroad; food 9stduent cafeterias and in general) was cheaper because at American schools the meal plans tend to be required and quite pricey. the phoen tends to be more expensive in France.
Travel, Overall, Telephone: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife: was the same price as at home.
Food, Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
Some bank machines refused my American credit/ATM cards. You have to buy insurance for your dorm room in France--this was a surprise to me.

Small products such as shampoo could be extremely expensive, the rent was very cheap and finding student nights or happy hour is the best bet for nightlife.
Food, Travel, Nightlife, Overall: was more expensive than at home.
Telephone: was the same price as at home.
Housing: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
BNP Paribas was not a good bank to open an account with, it was tough to find cheap and appropriate cooking utensils / bedding (try TATI - a low price shop next to St. Sebastien shopping centre).

Food was less thanks to prix fixe menus and student restaurants. Telephone was more because I was calling international. Travel is cheeper if you take the train and buy a "carte 12-25" which gives you 50% reductions.
Telephone: was more expensive than at home.
Nightlife, Overall, Housing: was the same price as at home.
Food, Travel: was less expensive than at home.
Personal comments:
The BCA program gave the students monthly checks for lunch money and helped us open a bank account.
