Description:
The University of Lille was founded in 1562 by the Spanish and became French in 1667. Louis PASTEUR became the Science Faculty's first Dean in 1854, which was to become the "USTL" in 1971, located in the campus in Villeneuve d'Ascq. The USTL is a public university directed by a President, elected for five years by different university Management Committees. He is advised by a 20 member management team who are responsible for the USTL's activities. The final decisions are made by three committees: the Administration Committee, the Scientific Committee and the Committee of Studies and University life.

Course recommendations:
duration of cousres is to long for me, in my country a theoretic cours was never longer than 135 minutes,concerning laboratories everything was good, i liked also the possibilities to visiting factories in the program of studies

it's really dificult to chose the courses, because it takes a lang time before you get al the information, so the lessons are already started which makes it really hard

typical for france everything takes a lot of time, i had to waith more then a mont to get my points and als the information regarding the courses is hard to get...so maybe the home university should push some more to get the papers in time .. Too theorethical,we were studying at an advanced level with 1st year Phd. students.The classes of macroeconomics,microeconomics and econometrics were too mathemathical and did not provide us with the insight we were expecting.

The whole programm is a Joint European Studies Programme. That is why we were moving each trimester from one University to the other.However,there were around twenty of us and during the 1st trimester we were divided into two groups.One studying in Staffordshire (UK) and ours in Lille.We would have preferred the courses to be unified for both terms, as our group studied something completely different than the one in the UK.Even though, the course names were exactly the same. At first it was very difficult to understand everything, because the teacher in France can really talk for hours and the students have to write everything down all the time, because the students only use their notes instead of books. But I don't really have recommendations, you just will get used to it.

(Maybe I'm pretty critical. I always compare things with the situation at my home university. I suppose people can't complain about Lille1 but in some cases Ghent is better. ;) ) Ask French students if you can copy their notes. I'm sure it will be fine for them. (As most of the times there you only have to study your notes, it is important to have good notes of course.)
