konstanz is a very nich city. The only unconfortable aspect has to do with travelling by train(because of the presence of the lake)...it takes a little more time than from other locations.Anyway there are several low cost companies flying from Friedrichshafen to the rest of europe Read Review

Could've been better, but didn't lessen the overall experience.
Disappointing.

Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why? It was right near the university for easy access to classes, and all of my friends lived there, so my social life revolved around where I lived. Also, I had contact with Germans through living with them.
Personal comments:
It wasn't exactly a beautiful room nor did it have modern facilities, but after I got over that, I realized that it was the best place to live due to the social life and contact with Germans. The international environment is also a plus.

Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German
How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
My level after: At ease in most situations
Personal comments:
I studied German for two years before I studied there. I did not feel at ease in any situation when I arrived. I participated in a month-long language course throughout September that is offered at the University of Konstanz. After this course, I felt confident and really felt integrated into the society a lot more than when I had just arrived. Overall, my language and communication was a huge learning experience. I gained much knowledge about the outside world, as well as another language. It created many new views into my own culture and society as well.

FINAL COMMENTS

A really nice place to spend a year. The weather can be a bit depressing, but towards the summer, it becomes really nice and the lake is wonderful to have nearby. I made amazing friends and had a BLAST. Would recomend the experiance to anyone...oh yeah, don't miss Ali Baba's Doener kebaps on Bodan Platz!!! They're the best in town!
